Yoga isn't a marketplace.
We're not building one.
YogaNearMe is a directory. We send students. We never take a cut.
The platforms are extracting from yoga.
Mindbody charges studios $139–$499 per month just to manage their schedule. Then they take a percentage of every booking on top of that. ClassPass takes 50–80% of the revenue from every class booked through their platform. None of that cut goes to the teacher. The studio barely breaks even. The teacher makes less per student. And the student? They don't even know.
This isn't sustainable. It's a race to the bottom. Studios discount their classes to fill seats through these platforms, which trains students to expect $8 yoga. Teachers, already underpaid, see their income diluted further. And the platforms? They're the only ones making money.
The platforms position themselves as necessary—as if studios can't survive without them. But that's only true because the platforms built the dependency. They own the students. They own the data. They control the relationship. And they charge studios rent to access their own customer base.
We built YogaNearMe because we refuse to accept this as the only option. Yoga doesn't need middlemen extracting value at every transaction. It needs infrastructure that serves studios and students—not shareholders.
We built a different thing.
YogaNearMe is a directory—not a booking platform, not a marketplace, not a "discovery engine." We list studios. We rank them based on completeness and quality, not how much they pay us. Students search. We send them directly to the studio's website or contact info. That's it.
We don't insert ourselves into the transaction. We don't take a percentage of bookings. We don't charge per lead. We don't require studios to use our scheduling system or payment processor. Standard payment processing applies (2.9% + $0.30, same as Stripe), but there's no platform fee on top of that.
Studios pay $0 for a basic listing. They can claim it, edit it, add photos, update their schedule—all free. If they want premium features like priority placement, an intro offer callout, or a monthly Visibility Report, that's $19/month. No contracts. No hidden fees. No upsells disguised as "partnership opportunities."
This model only works because we're not trying to become a billion-dollar marketplace. We're trying to build infrastructure that yoga studios actually need—and can afford.

Lisa Marie has been teaching yoga since 2009 and running Viveka Yoga since 2015. She built YogaNearMe because she was tired of watching platforms extract value from teachers and studios while offering nothing but dependency in return. YNM is her answer to an industry that forgot yoga isn't supposed to be a commodity.
