About

Alden Caldwell has been practicing various styles of hatha yoga since 1998.

Her earliest yogic influences where from teachers of Iyengar, Anusara, and Integrative Yoga styles. In 2007 Alden completed her 200-hour IYT teacher certification at Yama Studio in Baltimore. She continued her training at Yama and completed her 500-hour certification in 2009. In January 2009 Alden became Co-Director of Evolvewell Studio in Baltimore, Maryland where she offered private and group yoga instruction to students of all ages and stages from Itsy Bitys Yoga®, yoga for teens, as well as adult classes. Currently she teaches independent classes at Ruscombe Community Health Center and Joy Wellness Center. Since 2010 Alden has traveled annually to the Sivananda Ashram in Rikhiapeeth as well as the Bihar Yoga University in Munger, India where she studied various meditation techniques and experienced ashram living. She was inspired by the teachings of Paramahansa Satyananda Saraswati and the holistic wellbeing approach of Satyananda Yoga. She was initiated as a karma sannyasin in the Saraswati lineage and given the spiritual name of Shambhavi. Alden/Shambhavi follows the teachings of Swami Satyananda and her guru, Paramahansa Niranjananda Saraswati. She has completed Yogaic Studies 1 and 2 as well as the Teacher Training 1 programs at the Yoga Academy of North America (YANA). She is an accredited Level 1 Instructor in Satyananda Yoga® . Alden feels that yoga is for every body, beneficial to all ages, genders, and states of health. Her classes include asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and yoga nidra practices. From her love of yoga sprang a desire to learn more about the human body and the mind-body connection as it pertains to wellness. In the spring of 2006 Alden graduated from Holistic Massage Training Institute's 600-hour massage program and continues her private practice as a Maryland Licensed Massage Therapist. Alden loves playing with the complimentary elements of bodywork and yoga. Often she incorporates many of her yogic philosophies and breath work into her bodywork sessions as well as uses her knowledge of anatomy and physiology to aid with correct alignment in yoga postures. Her philosophy is to address specific problem areas while revitalizing the entire being, promoting mind-body awareness, and allowing space for holistic healing and wellness of being to occur. Alden Caldwell is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).
