About
Alene started practicing Iyengar yoga 23 years ago in search of a way to reduce work-related stress.
She soon discovered yoga’s many benefits, including balance, strength, resilience and calm. After many years of experimenting with various yoga styles, Alene was excited to complete her 200-hr teacher training in 2024 in alignment-based Hatha. With a focus is on mixed-level and integrative practice, Alene strives to make yoga enjoyable and accessible for all, using props to support all bodies and all ages. Alene's goals are to make every student feel a sense of joy, curiosity, and upliftment as we explore the practice together with compassion and humor. Her favorite pose is Vrksasana (tree pose), as it teaches us to center our energy even while sensing expansion outward and upward. When she is not on her yoga mat, Alene enjoys mat and reformer Pilates, strength training, long walks, backyard birdwatching, mystery novels, and learning about Ayurvedic cooking. Alene is certified in accessible/chair yoga through the Accessible Yoga School and is also certified in Yoga for Seniors with yoga therapists Kimberly Carson and Carol Krucoff, based on the program they developed at Duke Integrative Medicine. All of her classes incorporate elements from meditation practice, to Qi Gong and Pilates. Alene's teachers have included Anne Wutchiett, Kelly Fisher, Lucy Lomax, Jen Randle, Jivana Heyman, Doug Keller, Carol Krucoff. and Kimberly Carson.
