About
Allison’s interest in fitness and wellness began as a child; she vividly remembers watching Gerard and Denise Austin as if it were a children’s TV program. In 1998 she attended a hatha yoga class at her gym and loved the way it made her feel. Her asana and meditation practice deepened after 911, employing yoga to help her PTSD. She fell in love with the opening Sanskrit incantation, the beautiful words of wisdom and alignment principles the teacher would weave in and out of the practice.
In 2009 a herniated disk left Allison unable to walk. She realized that sitting at a desk for 8+ hours a day could no longer be in her future. She had an ‘aha’ moment during physical therapy she recognized how similar some of the exercises were to yoga poses! In 2011 Allison set out on her journey to learn how to teach others this powerful practice. Every time Allison gets on the mat, it’s an invitation to remember her wholeness, which can get lost in our modern world of more, more, more. Allison loves to unite her breath with movement to feel awareness in her body that she has only felt in her asana practice; she finds it is easy to become lost in the movement. The practice of yoga and meditation provides Allison the freedom to experience and work through fear and the raw emotion that can come up when making changes. Yoga has helped Allison find acceptance and confidence to move into her authentic self. On teaching, Allison loves to make people laugh while pushing them to be their best selves. Her classes embody alignment and flow. She loves to build up a good sweat and then melt into a puddle on the floor. She received her 500 RYT from Yoga works of NYC, a yoga methodology that combines alignment qualities of BKS Iyengar and the power of Vinyasa via Ashtanga Yoga.
