About

Alycia Laks, MS is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with a Registered Yoga School (RYS).

She is also a research speech-language pathologist. She has over 7 years of experience working with individuals living with stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other progressive neurological disorders. She has specialized training in providing adaptive yoga services to people with neurological disorders. Together with her business partner, Hannah Herring, PT, DPT, they founded District Adaptive Yoga in 2022. Their Story began as friends, colleagues, and fellow yogis at a hospital in Northern Virginia. After getting several requests from patients for yoga and mindfulness resources designed for their specific needs, we began searching for options. That’s when we realized that there was not much available— particularly from teachers trained in the unique physical, cognitive, and language impairments associated with neurological conditions. So, in 2020, with years of yoga experience, clinical expertise, and teaching certifications in hand, we set out to design our own classes and bring the healing powers of adaptive yoga to our hospital. Inspired by the change we saw in our patients, we founded District Adaptive Yoga in 2022 to make the physical and cognitive benefits of movement accessible to everyone across this community.
