About
As a teenager in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1991, I began practicing “hot yoga” at home; by using a beach towel for a mat and following instructions from a book.
I set up a space heater to warm my bedroom. It kind of worked, so I stuck with it. Yoga seemed to give me more stamina, agility, and focus. In February 2001, I joined the U.S. Army and my yoga mat became like my home away from home. It felt great to simply be myself, listen to music, and challenge my body. As I moved to different duty stations, I sought out yoga studios and began learning about a variety of yoga practices. During my fourth deployment in 2011, I hauled yoga mats and blocks with me to Afghanistan and taught yoga classes to my fellow Soldiers. I quickly discovered that teaching yoga was very different from practicing it and I was eager to learn more. In January of 2020 and nearing retirement, I decided to complete yoga teacher training. After finally retiring to Punta Gorda, FL, in June of 2021, I met Jennifer French and completed the Yoga Teacher Mentorship program at The Yoga Sanctuary. Using the tools from teacher training and my years of practice, I am excited to offer classes at The Yoga Sanctuary. Through my travels, I have explored many different styles of yoga, including Ashtanga, Hatha, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Restorative Yin Yoga, and Meditation. To ensure my classes are safe, accessible, and inclusive, I have learned to adapt a variety of postures to support individuals with differing levels of flexibility and strength. My classes combine elements of power, focus, and peacefulness in hopes that my students will walk away with a feeling of calm, clear and physically and energetically balanced.
