About
I pursued yoga teacher training to build and enrich my own practice, and to learn more about the mind/ body connection.
At Five Points Yoga, I studied under Shannon and Ann, obtaining a 200 hour Hatha Yoga Certification March 2020 (just as Covid began shutting most yoga studios down). I became familiar with Iyengar techniques and fell in love with Meditation and Yin practice. I developed a home routine and although I volunteer taught some, I really didn't aspire to teach. As Covid ramped up, I started back running because many studios were closed and I preferred to get outside with nature. Road running led to trail running. Trail running led to mountain running. And, injuries followed... including shin splints, plantar fasciitis, frozen ankle, frozen shoulder, an angry IT band. But, the worst injury of all was an unstable pelvis. After seeing a chiropractor, Orthopedic/ Sports Medicine Physician, and Physical Therapist, and wearing shoe inserts and a pelvic binder, I did get some relief; but, continued to reinjure and develop new injuries. I became very interested in yoga poses specific to help me lessen these injuries and to help prevent them from reoccurring. I use both yoga and running as a way to decompress and get out of my mind, my time running amongst the trees or flowing on the mat is when I find peace and get connected with my true purpose. As a fulltime Social Worker/ Case manager at Piedmont Athens Regional and a mom of 3 teens, recently remarried (and now with 5 teens), I need a way to handle the stresses of a busy life. The hospital was looking for a yoga instructor and I decided it was time to share my love of yoga with others. I am certified in Restorative and Yin practice and am hoping to obtain addition training in Meditation, Breathing Techniques, Singing Bowls, and Myofascial Release. And, on the side, I love to write poetry.
