Hello My name is Calvin Brown my background with yoga begins with my background in the performing arts I have a BFA in Musical Theater from the DANA School of music at Youngstown State University with a minor in Dance Ballet Focused I later went on to get my MFA in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance with a study focus in theater and a continued Dance study at Carnegie Mellon University Yoga was introduced to me through Dance and as all Dancers know we use yoga as a means of warm up and mental preparation along with our dance warm-ups I still continue to perform and audition and like most performers when COVID came it really affected the performance community Having nowhere to perform and practice we had to innovate or home practice From here is where I began a deeper dive into the study of yoga So after practicing Ballet and Bar at home with the encouragement of friends who were yoga teachers I would practice with them virtually or practice along with videos they recommended from other yoga teachers So the more I practiced it in its own form separate from dance the more I wanted to dive deeper Being encouraged by a dear friend this led to me coming to my first “yoga class” at my local yoga studio called PurYoga This led to me coming to my local yoga studio on a regular basis along side my regular dance practice and gym training sessions A year later my studio offered a HR teacher training program and after a little time of thought and consideration on my end; along with the encouragement from friends the other yogis I became friends with and the other teachers at the studio itself I decided to take the leap Which brings me here today.
