About

Carolyn Smith is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).

Carolyn discovered the benefits of a regular yoga practice in 1998. Drawn to yoga for stress relief, she quickly found that reducing stress was only half the story. Coming from a family with a history of weight gain, diabetes, and high blood pressure among other ailments, yoga became a way for Carolyn to proactively manage her health. Along the way, she discovered a passion for the science of yoga and a talent for sharing the benefits yoga has to offer. After spending almost 20 years in corporate accounting and finance, Carolyn chose to make her passion her work and received her first teaching certification in 2006. While her teaching has always been heavily focused on proper body mechanics and alignment, her interest in a more functional approach to yoga was born from her experiences working with students over the years. Recognizing that a “one size fits all” approach is not appropriate for every body, she began studying biomechanics and functional movement with Jenny Otto and Body Balance Yoga® in 2012. In 2015, Carolyn completed an 800-hour structural and functional teacher training program with Body Balance Yoga. In 2017, she earned certification as a Yoga Therapist through the International Yoga Therapists Association (IAYT). She is also a Yoga Tune Up® Level 1 Certified Teacher. In addition to teaching yoga and yoga therapy, Carolyn is also a licensed massage therapist in both Maryland and Delaware.
