About

Cathy Cesario, M.A., E-RYT 500, is a yoga teacher and trainer of yoga teachers.

She has been teaching yoga for over thirty-five years. She holds degrees in Developmental and Cognitive Psychology and in English Literature, and is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500) with the Yoga Alliance at the most advanced level. She is the Director of Spirit Tree Yoga Teacher Training, a 200RYS, and held trainings mostly in New England. In 1991 Cathy was one of seven American students to be certified by her honored teacher Sri Sadashiv Nimbalkar of Bombay, India. Since then, Cathy has taught a variety of styles of yoga. She has been a student of Patricia Walden, Barbara Benagh, Angela Farmer, Richard Freeman, Maty Ezraty, Robert Svaboda, and T.K.V. Desikachar, among others. In 2001, she journeyed to Southeast Asia for three months, where she attended another teacher training in Bali and experienced a lifelong dream of trekking for nearly a month in the sacred Himalaya. It was a trip that changed the course of her life, as she left her high school teaching profession to become a yoga teacher and writer. Service to others became an even louder call, and she began honing her skills to serve that path. She has been a student of Buddhism since 1985, a philosophy that continues to feed and to inform her yoga teaching and individual client work. She holds certifications in Pilates Mat, in Reiki, in hypnotherapy, and as a Shamanic Practitioner. She is an Interfaith Minister and a Gong Sound Artist, and uses sound/vibration for both sacred ritual and integrative re-balancing. She has been doing private yoga sessions and integrative re-balancing work since 1995.She has taught yoga classes and private sessions at All That Matters, Rhode Island's largest holistic education center, since 2002, where she was asked to launch their first 200 hour yoga teacher training program. She also trained a beautigful community of yoga teachers at Tenth Gate Yoga Center in Portsmouth, as well as Shri Studio in Pawtucket, where she served as a teacher in their urban outreach program and is honored to have served as co-director of Teacher Training for the Path of Service 200 hr. yoga teacher training in its initial years of becoming as well.Whether she is working with cardiac care patients at Quincy Hospital in Massachusetts, with inner city teenagers in the Excel Program in South Boston, leading teen leadership workshops for East Greenwich public schools or the Girls Leadership Collaborative; Cathy enjoys bringing yoga and holistic practices to all walks of life. She believes that yoga and and alternative wellness practices are the tools for developing the inner landscape of each individual, and is ultimately the path to peace in the world—one being at a time.As a Middle School and High School English teacher for over 15 years, Cathy was happy to hold workshops and classes for Providence Public School Teachers, as well as to return to teaching children in Shri Studio's School Project Programs and Adaptive projects. She has also served corporate groups such as the Young Presidents Organization, Boston Private Bank and Trust and Leading Women, an organization that provides leadership training to female executives in all areas of business. In her private practice, she uses yoga postures, breathwork, meditation and visualization, sound and energy healing, Buddhist and yogic psychology, spiritual counseling, and shamanic practices to address imbalance on the physical, mental and emotional levels.Though her background and history are eclectic, all of Cathy’s work is based on the foundational understanding that the power of health, balance, wisdom, and happiness reside within. This work is about supporting individuals in developing a rich inner life, physically and mentally, to help balance the full, and sometimes chaotic, aspects of our “external” lives. Her strength is in creating a bridge of understanding to some of the ancient wisdom practices and in helping others access the power of these tools in their own lives. Science is providing increasing proof that human consciousness is becoming our most valuable resource, and that the ancient wisdom practices focused on developing the power of consciousness have powerful and real implications in these modern times.
