Cheryl Zak is currently registered with Yoga Alliance as a E-RYT which means that she has completed her Yoga teacher training at an active RYS??My Yoga journey began in with Kay Clay OakBrook Illinois who was trained by Indra Devi Through Kay I had the pleasure of attending a week workshop with Indra Devi in In the early &#;s I began study of Iyengar Yoga with John Schumacher which led to +years studying Iyengar Yoga with my primary teachers Judith Lasater Donald Moyer Manouso Manos and Laurie Blakeney From Iyengar Yoga I was taught how to observe body structures and movement patterns which aids in adapting Asanas for individual needs My teaching certification was earned with the American Viniyoga Institute Class of primary teacher Gary Kraftsow in the Viniyoga tradition of TKV Desikachar Viniyoga emphasizes respect for each individual student and their particular needs adapting Asanas as appropriate and incorporating breath with movement to establish the connection to Yoga I began teaching in while living in Savannah Georgia Since then I have taught Yoga both as a substitute teacher and as a full-time teacher My teaching style reflects my years of study with many wonderful teachers primarily based on the Viniyoga system with the ability to observe students movements and structures I established my home-based Yoga studio The Forsyth Yoga Center in and began RYS Teacher Training in Other areas of Yoga involvement include being a co-founder of The SouthEast Yoga Association and member and former President of the Yoga Association of Greater Detroit I strongly believe all Yoga teachers should incorporate continuing education into their own practice which I do I study with other teachers participate in teacher study groups spend time reading from my vast Yoga library and practice as many of the Yoga limbs into my life as possible I call myself a Yogi but know that even after years I am still striving to understand and apply the teachings of Yoga It is truly a lifelong journey While teaching I had a career in the technology field in sales and marketing with Digital Equipment Corporation and IBM I graduated from Georgia Southern University Summa Cum Laude in with a Business Degree I feel blessed in many ways of my life: as a spouse to Alan as a teacher to my students as a student to many wonderful teachers and as a trainer to those pursuing a Yoga teaching career Blessing to you May you truly enjoy your own personal Yoga journey It is a lifeong one Namaste.
