An avid runner, Courtenay took her first yoga class in 2007, after reading that it was great way to cross train for marathons.
“After my very first practice, the moment I got up from the mat, I felt overwhelmed by a deep sense of gratefulness. I felt like I had an encounter with God.” That sense of gratitude continued to prevail and nine years and 13 marathons later, she discovered that yoga was the perfect way to cross train for life. She continued her yoga journey and completed her 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher training in 2014 at Spiritual Essence Yoga in Upper Marlboro, MD. Courtenay is also a certified Level 1 Reiki practitioner. She is the creator of Gospel Yoga Flow® , a vigorous vinyasa yoga style, which is set to gospel music and incorporates biblically based meditations. The flow focuses on strengthening the spirit and the mind, as much as the body. Courtenay is a publisher by profession, a wife and proud mother of two daughters. She is working on her first book, Peek-A-Boo Faith: Meditations for Conquering Fear, which will be published in 2019. Courtenay is the owner of Shabach Yoga Studio in Waldorf, MD.
