From running, lifting weights, and practicing yoga to adopting a more balanced and simple diet, I started, for the first time in my life, truly feeling alive. In 2017, after living in Taiwan for three years with my fiancé, I wanted to deepen my yoga practice so traveled to India for a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) immersion with Sampoorna Yoga.Upon repatriating back to the States in 2018, and landing in my beloved home of Boise, ID, I quickly fell in love with a local yoga studio and school, Sage Yoga & Wellness (Sage). The teachers and curriculum were vast, with a focus on trauma-informed yoga, yoga psychology, bhakti yoga, and modules in altered states of consciousness (all topics I have deep interest in). In December, 2019 I enrolled in Sage’s 300-hour YTT Program, shortly before the 2020 Global Pandemic hit. It was this Sage YTT experience paired with the timing of the pandemic that shifted my reality completely.Within the YTT program I enrolled in an additional elective; a 9-month Alchemy of Self Realization course. The course guided students, in a safe container, to dive into and process some of their deepest traumas through various modalities including Somatic Experiencing (SE™), the program kicking off in March of 2020 when the world as a whole was experiencing collective trauma. Although I didn’t have a personally profound SE experience within the course, I was intrigued by the practice and wanted to learn and experience more. When the 9-month course concluded I began working with one of the course leaders in weekly 1:1 SE sessions; of which quite literally rewired my nervous system. Before beginning these sessions, I didn’t feel anything was “off” or needed “fixing”, I was simply curious to explore SE after learning about it in the course. With each session though, I felt the power of SE. So gentle, yet so transformative. It has shifted my life completely; there is a distinct “life before” and “life after” SE. In practicing, I processed what I didn’t realize was there to process. It was like receiving the correct glasses prescription; I could finally see clearly, with no need to squint or strain; I was free. Re-wired. Authentic. Complete. Whole. Since practicing regular SE, I incorporate it into yoga classes, breathwork, and retreats. Individually, these modalities have had a profoundly deep and positive impact on my life, and when pairing them together, have been transformative. It is because of the joy and depth these modalities have brought into my life, along with the side effects of stamina, flexibility, and energy (to name a few), that I have chosen to dedicate my life to creating and holding space for others so they, too, may move, process, and connect with their truest, most authentic and joyful Selves. Thank you for considering to have me join and hold space for you as you journey into The Heart Space Center.
