David’s mindfulness journey began in 1974 when he learned Transcendental Meditation™ during graduate school.
Since then, he has meditated daily and cultivated a lifelong passion for learning, adventure, and self-discovery. He has been practicing yoga for more than 25 years, completing his 200-hour teacher training at Epic Yoga in Brentwood, TN, and his 300-hour training at Sanctuary for Yoga in Nashville. He also completed the 150-hour Ayurvedic Wellness Counseling Foundation Program with James Bailey of the Sevanti Institute and is a Certified HeartMath Coach.David brings a spirit of curiosity, adventure, and joy to his teaching. Off the mat, he has made over 2,300 skydives and is a licensed commercial hot air balloon and private airplane pilot. While his classes are rooted firmly on the ground, his goal is always to help students’ spirits soar. For David, yoga is much more than exercise - It’s a practice that can be adapted for every body and every life stage, with the power to transform.Beyond yoga, David is a former psychotherapist and consultant who has dedicated his career to preventing violence and teaching federal and local law enforcement, as well as other professionals, how to navigate extremely high-stakes situations. From coaching hostage negotiators and preventing assassinations to training on workplace challenges, his work has always centered on mindful communication and human connection.
