About
Deena Freed was born in Russia, came to the US at the age of 12 and discovered Ashtanga yoga 10 years later.
She found herself initially drawn to the physical aspects of asana, finding the strength and agility built in her body relieved back pain and surprisingly yoga brought Deena a new sense of calm and peace not found in the gym. Although Deena took a break from yoga to start her family, she restarted her practice from the ground up at Down Under Yoga in Newton. As a corporate high tech trainer, Deena always wanted to take her teaching to the mat and completed the 200-hour teacher training at Down Under School of Yoga in 2015 under the tutelage of Angelina Howley-Dolan, Kate Heffernan, Peter Crowley and Barbara Benagh and the 300 hour training Natasha Rizopoulos in December of 2016. As a yoga teacher, Deena feels strongly about giving her students the foundations in alignment, linking breath with movement and challenging her students to find their sacred space on the mat by quieting their minds and focusing on breath. Deena lives in Newton with her two children and their rescue dog Charlie.
