About
Yoga found Erik in the Spring of 2007.
He enrolled in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. MBSR training includes meditation and yoga. With the first yoga practice, Erik felt great physically and very at peace. After graduating from the 8-week MBSR program, Erik continued his daily meditation practice and sought out yoga in a non-hospital environment. He is a graduate of the 200-hour Yogawood Yoga Teacher Training program with Beth Filla and Jill Cummings, the 30-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training program with Lynda Maguire, the 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training program at Trishula Yoga with Zoe Mai, the Prison Yoga Project teacher training with James Fox, and is a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist (CES). Erik strives to inspire his students to overcome obstacles, push their own limitations, and find mindfulness and ease-of-wellbeing with every breath, regardless of the pace, intensity, or complexity of the practice. Erik studies and teaches Yin, Vinyasa, & Ashtanga Yoga. In 2008, as part of Yoga Teacher Training, he took a Sanskrit immersion weekend with Zoe from the American Sanskrit Institute (ASI). He was amazed that by the end of the second day, he was able to read Sanskrit words. The ASI learning model made that possible. In July 2011, with Zoe as his teacher, Erik joined Trishula Yoga’s weekly Sanskrit study group focusing on chanting and studying the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, and other texts, as well as chanting the Sanskrit alphabet and Maheshvara Sutras. In July 2013, Erik participated in the ASI Sanskrit Level 1 Teacher Training. Since graduation, he has been teaching 'Introduction to Sanskrit' weekend workshops in the United States and Canada.
