About
Fannie Hungerford is a 500 hour yoga and meditation teacher based in Iowa City.
She is Iowa’s only ParaYoga certified teacher. A native of South Carolina, she was introduced to yoga in 1999 by her Marine Science teacher in undergrad. Over the next 9 years, the voice in her head that emerged after yoga classes and said, “you should do this more”, got louder and louder. While living in Chicago, she practiced and studied at Moksha Yoga Center where she received her 200 hr teacher training. At Moksha, she was deeply influenced by Brenna Geehan and Jim Bennitt and tantric hatha. Their classes brought about a feeling of stability and clarity that began to shift her perspective on life. In 2008, she met their teacher, Rod Stryker, and committed to studying with him and immersing in the ParaYoga curriculum. ParaYoga is rooted in Tantra, Ayurveda, and Pantajali’s Yoga. Fannie is a firm believer in the power of the ancient traditions and practices of yoga. Her classes combine dynamic asana work with pranayama and meditation. A lover of people and with a great interest in the human condition, her teaching provides experiences for the Soul and tools for leading a less-burdened life. She leads group and private sessions, workshops, trainings and retreats.
