About

My name is Halli Faulkner.

I’m a yoga teacher with a law degree and a master’s degree in education. As a survivor of sexual assault and abuse, I’ve learned how to use the tools of movement, breath, and mantra to help myself heal. I first learned about yoga in my high school gym class in upstate New York. Doing some basic breath exercises ignited a spark of curiosity in me, and I’ve been curious – practicing and learning – ever since. In 2014, I moved to Los Angeles and was trained in Kundalini yoga by Krishna Kaur. Every day I am grateful for this lineage and mindful of the fact that people of color created and taught me these life-saving practices. I was subsequently trained in trauma-informed yoga by Kyra Haglund and started teaching yoga workshops for sexual assault survivors while going deep into my own process of healing from trauma and post-traumatic stress. I’ve also spent a lot of time in the formal academic world – earning my Master’s degree in education from Loyola Marymount University and my law degree from the George Washington University Law School, then working in education policy for over a decade. In 2019, I founded a nonprofit organization called Porchlight Wellness that provides healing yoga workshops for sexual assault survivors and 40-hour teacher trainings for anyone who wants to learn how to teach trauma-informed yoga and meditation for survivors. Our Porchlight Wellness community has been an incredible gift in my own healing process and I’m honored to have taught workshops and trainings for students around the world. Through all this, I’ve learned that real, life-changing work comes directly from my heart… And also that every great teacher needs some serious down time, which for me means relaxing at home in Washington, D.C. with my beautiful wife and spunky two-year-old daughter. You’re welcome to read my online journal in order to learn more about my own healing journey: https://www.porchlightwellness.org/journal.
