About
I have been teaching physical forms of yoga since 1996, and teaching meditation and energy work since 1991.
Before practising yoga I experienced constant back pain. I learned to meditate in 1985, and used meditation as a tool to control the experience of pain. I began training in macrobiotics in 1989 which also helped immensely with my experience of pain, but did not eliminate it completely. In 1990 I took a massive leap of faith devoted my life to holistic and spiritual practice and transitioned from being a business consultant in London, to practicing massage, energy work and teaching meditation full time at the Holistic Health Department in Findhorn, Scotland. Even though I had all of these great tools, lived in a wonderfully supportive community I still experienced back pain on a daily basis, I literally tried and trained in every form of bodywork, energy work, psychosynthesis, and emotional process to release it, but it persisted. I was initially introduced to yoga by a friend, whose mother was a Sivananda and Alexander Technique instructor, after pracitising with her I felt significant benefits. I followed this with an Iyengar teacher in England, when I was walking home after my first class, and caught my reflection in a shop window, not only was I pain free, but I was almost 2 inches taller! I spent the next 3 months apprenticing with this teacher, a fantastic experience! I had moved from Findhorn, Scotland to the USA in and was teaching energy work, meditation and all over the western US, and other countries such as Japan, Peru, Egypt. I was inspired to do more with yoga, and also share this gift with others, so I followed this by Certifying in Sivananda style Hatha Yoga. I also trained and certified as an ND, Master Iridologist, Master Herbalist, Reiki Master, and RET practitioner. I continued to teach and travel incorporating yoga classes and workshops into my work wherever I was. And updating my skills through classes, workshops and trainings in many varied styles of yoga from ashtanga, Maya, Jivamukti to Self Realization Viniyoga and Yin. Although I often say that my best "teacher" was a blind student, who never having seen a yoga posture showed me immediately how important accurate spoken instructions can be! I currently provide classes and sessions through Red Mountain Resort, Entrada, Summit Athletic Club and privately in person or via the internet. I specialize in flow, maintaining a meditative state no matter how hard the class is physically, and working with people who have physical issues/injuries. I also maintain my practices teaching and facilitating energy work and meditation sessions, classes and workshops, both indoors and in nature. Over this long journey of teaching I have become comfortable teaching in many different ways with all kinds of groups from individuals to hundreds of people, in studios, gyms, conferences, retreat centers and in nature.
