About
Jean Wolfersteig is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).
Jean retired as CEO of a psychiatric hospital and several outpatient clinics after a 35-year career in public service, where she witnessed and experienced, firsthand, the devastating effects of stress on the body and mind. Being a life long student of yoga, she is grateful to have fulfilled a retirement dream, allowing her to continue to serve others by teaching yoga. She completed her 200-hour teacher certification in the classical form of ashtanga yoga in 2009 and her 500-hour certification in 2013, both with Beryl Bender Birch and the Hard and Soft Yoga Institute. Certified as a Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra guide with Jennifer Reis, she uses this ancient practice to soothe participants into deep relaxation. She has also completed Restorative Yoga Teacher Training and Adaptive Yoga Teacher Training with Jillian Pransky, Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Biff Mithoefer, and Restorative Breathwork Foundations with Kathleen Barrett. Jean is passionate about the feeling of being simultaneously energized and at peace – the sense of calm in a storm – that practicing yoga creates. Through the contrasting experiences of an intense, sweaty physical practice and the deep relaxation of restorative and yin poses, restorative breathwork, and yoga nidra, she helps students find physical, emotional, and mental balance. She teaches group lessons and workshops at the YMCA and for corporations and private lessons with individuals. A portion of her work is pro bono.
