About
Clare (she/her) has been practicing yoga for around 35 years.
She completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Vinyasa Flow yoga through Yoga Off East in Durham NC and teaches occasional classes there as well as regular vinyasa flow classes at Yoga District in Durham. Her interest in yoga was piqued as a teenager by her father who liked to stand on his head. She started taking classes regularly while a student in London, UK, falling in love with Iyengar yoga, a method that emphasizes precise alignment and the creative use of props. She discovered Astanga yoga while doing a teacher training in Ireland. Both styles still appeal to her and inform her yoga practice. Iyengar classes are wonderfully exploratory with careful sequencing of poses. Astanga sequences become familiar pathways: the body gets a balanced and strengthening workout, "riding the breath" while the mind settles and finds focus. Having long been interested in developing her own sequences, Clare loves the creativity of Vinyasa Flow yoga. She enjoys teaching a range of classes from slower more meditative flows to classes that offer more challenging sequences and poses. Whatever the pace of the class Clare aims to provide a peaceful, welcoming, and playful space for students to build flexibility and strength while focusing and stilling the mind.
