About

Joya Banerjee is certified Vinyasa and Yin yoga instructor (RYT 500) living in Washington, DC.

She teaches with Yoga District and offers classes in Vinyasa and pre and post-natal. Joya completed her 200 hour teacher training in Vinyasa and Yin at Inner Yoga in Bali, Indonesia, which included coursework on Meditation, Anatomy, Physiology, Ayurveda, Yogic Philosophy and History. She has practiced yoga for 20 years, including Vinyasa, Yin, Asthanga, Hatha, Nidra, Kundalini, and hot yoga. Joya previously taught with Anand Yoga Village in Goa, India, and completed a training on Trauma Sensitive Yoga at the The Center for Trauma and Embodiment at the Justice Resource Center in June 2020. Her practice is rooted in Hindu yogic philosophy, and she seeks to bring yoga back to its origins through integrating pranayama (meditative breath work) and mudras into her classes. Joya is also trained in, and taught, Indian classical dance, and completed her Arangetram (professional debut) in 1997 with the Triveni School of Dance. Joya has many online classes available for free at https://www.yogawithjoya.com.
