Julie Adler (MFA, C-IYT, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500) has been practicing and teaching yoga for 30 years and is fully certified in the Iyengar tradition.
She began her yoga studies, practice and teaching in 1992 in New York City under the tutelage of senior Iyengar teacher, Mary Dunn and subsequently studied intensively in India, having had the great privilege to receive direct teachings numerous times from BKS Iyengar, Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. She has been a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology at Cal State University Los Angeles for almost 20 years, and has taught at YogaWorks, Woodbury University, InYoga Center, Silverlake Yoga, Disney and many other places. She has served on the board for the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California, Los Angeles Friends of Tibet and the Cal Arts Alumni Association as well as being a hospice volunteer for 5 years with the Cedars Sinai Hospice Program. Julie also held a position as Global Communications manager for Siddhartha’s Intent, a Buddhist organization and worked with the Peace Vase Project prior to that. Julie has been practicing and studying Buddhism for 30 years, steeped in the traditions of vipassana and mindfulness as well Buddhist philosophy in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. She is also a multi-media artist and classically trained singer; her work includes performance, painting and drawing and music (composition and voice). She has a BFA from Cooper Union and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.
