About

Kara is a former professional dancer, who uses her passion for movement to connect with students.

Kara received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance & Pedagogy from The University of Texas (Hook 'em!) and left to travel the world performing dance--from serious modern works, to playful musical theater, to interactive contemporary pieces. While pursuing her dance career, she needed something that would ground and center her, and yoga delivered! Yoga transformed not only her physicality, but also her mind, concentration, and self-awareness and esteem. An ACL tear and several knee surgeries brought her back to Houston and brought her back to her yoga practice for new reasons. As she regained her strength, both mentally and physically, she decided to go back to teaching, to sharing her love and knowledge of movement and the body. Since 2011, Kara has studied under Lex Gillan, Johnny Kest, Dan & Cristina Houston, Kristina Keller, Rhia Robinson in Houston, TX. She is a Yoga Alliance certified E-RYT and YACEP, has been teaching since 2012, and has been leading movement based teacher trainings since 2014. Kara is a devoted life long learner and is always exploring ways to learn more about herself, her practice and her teaching so that she can continue to develop the experience and skills of those around her. She has started her RYT 500 hr training with Tiffany Cruikshank and is excited to continue the journey. Through movement, Kara believes we can come to understand ourselves, and those around us, better and more completely. She feels that yoga offers the perfect opportunity to go beyond just moving our bodies and into connecting to our deeper selves; she believes that yoga is a complete path to self realization. Kara loves to craft intelligent and invigorating flows that awaken and balance the energy and physicality of the body, and to incorporate her knowledge of the body into class, weaving physical and energetic themes throughout practice.
