Founder of Skanda Yoga • Author • Teacher TrainerKen “Anand” von Roenn began his yoga journey in 1995 while studying at Arizona State University, originally turning to Iyengar yoga to support his rock climbing.
After a series of injuries and surgeries, yoga became his path to deep physical and mental rehabilitation. This transformation led him to complete teacher training at Yoga East in Louisville, where he discovered a true passion for sharing the practice.Over the next decade, Anand taught across multiple traditions—Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, and Anusara—before relocating to Miami in 2005. There, his evolving insights crystallized into Skanda Yoga, a dynamic lineage now recognized by Yoga Alliance (RYS). He is also the author of three books—The Practice of Skanda Yoga, Classes of Enchantment, and Adho Mukha Vrksasana—and the creator of the Skanda Yoga Practice mobile app.Anand is known for classes that are uplifting, challenging, and rich with anatomical and energetic wisdom. His teaching blends precision with inspiration, creating an experience that is both transformative and accessible.Teaching ApproachAnand teaches with the understanding that every body is unique. Instead of prescribing a single “correct” form, he offers multiple alignment options—helping students discover the method that best suits their structure. His approach includes:Standard Alignment: clear lines and angles that build strength, stability, and refined technique.Dynamic Alignment: more adaptive positioning that enhances flow, energy, and performance.Through functional planes and individualized adjustments, Anand guides students toward the balance of sthira (steadiness) and sukha (ease), empowering each practitioner to find their fullest expression in every posture.SpecialtiesAnand leads private sessions, group workshops, retreats, and advanced teacher trainings. He also teaches Tibetan Dream Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, and the devotional wisdom of Bhakti Yoga, offering a multidimensional and deeply integrative path for students at all levels.
