About

My yoga journey began in 2003 when I was introduced to yoga as part of a workplace wellness program.  I was looking to gain back my health and flexibility by exploring this growing cultural phenomenon.  I immediately saw the benefits and once or twice a week at the company gym during my lunch hour just wasn’t enough.  I found a local studio through the teacher that I was practicing with, and as luck would have it, it was right around the corner from where I lived.

Over the years I was content to attend classes – ducking in and out when I felt life permitted it.  Soon I realized that it was becoming less of an option for me to do my yoga.  My body ached and my mind complained constantly when I stayed away for a week or two.  After attending a retreat in 2012 I knew I needed to commit myself to deepen my knowledge and practice.  I looked into the teacher training program but my personal life felt too chaotic and overwhelming to take on such a task.  The following year my master teacher approached me and encouraged me to think about joining an upcoming session beginning in January 2013.  Life was just as out of control as it was the prior year, but I threw caution to the wind and trusted my instincts - this was a journey that I needed to embark on. The training process uncovered many hidden talents and weaknesses – it was unnerving at first.  As the program progressed I began to visualize what I wanted to do with all of this profound knowledge and amazement – pay it forward!  I look forward to every day and the amazing opportunities that await me on and off my mat. I've learned to trust in myself and that I'm on the right path doing what I believe is what I am meant to do. I am currently working on my RYT 500 hour certification as well as ramping up my skills to work more closely with sports teams by studying Gwen Lawrence's Power Yoga for Athletes techniques.  Working with high school and college athletes over the past year has been very rewarding and I intend to continue to move my teaching practice in this direction. It’s exciting to be able to combine my lifelong passion for sports (basketball and football most notably), knowledge of the repetitive movements associated with the players’ individual positions and be able to design a targeted yoga practice that promotes their physical and mental well-being.
