Kristin received her RYT- Yoga Alliance certification from Full Circle Yoga in Winter Park in September and is over-the-moon to teach at Searchlight Yoga in Gainesville FL Her classes are intended to be challenging and fun giving students the opportunity to be present in their bodies and to learn courage by couraging Kristin Joys has been practicing yoga almost every day since For the first years Kristins practice focused on Ashtanga studying with Melissa Montilla & Jessica Nobel as well as luminaries like Doug Swenson & David Williams While traveling for work she stumbled into Anusara & Jivamukti classes and fell in love all over again Shes had the pleasure of taking Ashtanga classes with Caroline Boulinguez in Paris Anusara classes with Stacey Rosenberg in Berkeley CA and Jaye Martin & Betsey Downing in Sarasota and Jivamukti classes with Durga Devi & Cat Alip-Douglas in London and Michelle Baker in New Orleans In September she participated in Off the Mat Into the World with Seane Corn Hala Khouri and Suzanne Sterling Most recently she studied handstands with Kino MacGregor She describes her motivation for teaching as an epiphany- “I realized I wanted to give others the same transformative experience and empowering feeling that I get when Im on my mat flowing and moving -- learning and doing things I never imagined possible then taking that sense of purpose & meaning off my mat & into the world I realized that teaching would give me the opportunity to share what I love most about yoga— that its a practice not a performance its about the transitions between poses as much as it is about the poses themselves and really the asana isnt nearly as important as getting in the door on the mat and breathing Id love to create opportunities and make space for students to feel safe in their bodies to try new ways of moving and thinking and realize they can do hard things — and discover that courage & truth are already there inside their hearts and theyve been there all along”.
