Larissa Velez-Jackson (LVJ) (they/she) is a choreographer, interdisciplinary artist, teacher and sound-healing practitioner who uses improvisation as a main tool for research and creation.
They are Boricua-Italian-American, originally from Newark, New Jersey, and an ongoing cancer survivor, committed to the healing potential of art and body/mind practice. LVJ is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) with a BFA degree in Dance Education (University of the Arts, Phila, PA) and multiple certifications in group and senior-based fitness (AFFA) and Pilates certification from the Kane School of Core Integration. Since 2018, LVJ has also embarked on a study of sound healing (with David Gibson and Thomas Amelio), incorporating use of yoga chakra meditation, intuitive vocal toning and work with Tibetan bowls to enhance their mind/body wellness practice. LVJ is also certified by Tibetan Tones®Vibrational Sound Meditations. Their sound healing work and musings on yogic philosophy can be found within LVJ's new persona and YouTube Channel, Dr.Absurd Joy_ASMR.
