About
Certified Teacher of TriYoga® revolutionary practice founded by master yogini Kali Ray Kaliji.
Maretta loves connecting with students and sharing TriYoga's insights --though admitting to be a novice compared to the amazing depths of TY practices. Classes are held in a beautifully-renovated home studio that holds about eight students; small classes make focused individual attention possible and encourage an appealing community feeling. Maretta hopes students in her classes will find freedom to move toward wholeness and well-being on all levels In TriYoga. With steady awareness of the breath, one explores and experiences the body/mind in the present, awakening and increaseing vital life energy. With each such breath taken with awareness, the student aligns with that which is creative, joyful and sustaining of all beings--leading to deeper connection with one's true Self. TY practices bring the student home to the truth that one's essence is the presence of abundant light and grace. When aware of this light, one can see the light that others contain. TriYoga challenges assumptions about the world and about oneself; it will affect one's life in broad ways beyond the classes! Maretta especially admires Kali Ray TriYoga's founder for her generosity, joy and dedication to sharing authentic Yoga. This systematic approach focuses on flows of energy in the spine; it also emphasizes alignment awareness that allows the student to progress gently and safely. As physical capability increases, one grows in knowledge of transformative mental and spiritual energies as well. Maretta has studied TriYoga since 1999. She is certified in TriYoga Basics, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, having completed more than 1200 hours of TY workshops and teacher trainings, practicums and classes from Senior TY Teachers--including Physical Anatomy, Subtle Anatomy, TY Teaching Methodology, PranaVidya & Meditation, Mudra Yoga, Philosophy (jnana), Sanskrit, Partner Yoga, TriYoga for Pregnancy and Vegan Cooking & Lifestyle. As of September 15, 2024 she has taught nearly 6800 hours of group and private classes four levels including mentoring of three TY teacher trainees. She also has had extensive experience in Iyengar yoga. Before her Yoga experience began, Maretta earned a Masters degree in child psychology with elementary teacher certification and an MS in linguistics. She worked "au pair" in France for a time, spoke French with her husband and taught English as a Second Language to adults. While raising three children, she volunteered in Chicago public schools for many years: in that role she wrote grant proposals that brought a French language State Board of Education-funded program to the elementary school as well as drug education for teens/parents and a peer tutoring program to a high school. She also coordinated a peer tutoring program for six years and helped to develop the high school's first website She also volunteered for many years with the school's alumni association. Maretta enjoys spending time with family, music and dance performances, books, walking on beaches and in forests, full moons. She is an avid traveler with many trips to France, Poland and other countries in Europe; also Singapore, Tunisia, Mali, Turkey, Peru and more recently Costa Rica, South Africa and Australia. "There is nothing like experiencing a foreign culture to lessen the tendency to cling to an idiosyncratic, insular view of reality!"
