About
Maya (E-RYT 200) is the director and founder of Jim Thorpe Yoga, which she opened in 2012.
She has been studying yoga since 1997, first in Philadelphia, PA, where she was introduced to yoga at the University of the Arts while a student in the dance program. From that point forward, Maya explored many different kinds of yoga (Ashtanga, Sivananda, Iyengar). She has been especially inspired by studying with Dean and Rebecca Lerner, Holly Walck, Joan White, Patricia Walden, Manuso Manos, Carrie Owerko, and Kofi Busia, all certified Iyengar teachers, and also enjoys the occasional Ashtanga yoga practice. Maya is also a certified ChildPlay yoga teacher and a certified Ayurveda Yoga Specialist (Himalayan Institute), with over 2,000 hours of teaching adults and children. A mother, hiker, outdoor enthusiast, she also owns Purple Green Juice Bar & Cafe in Jim Thorpe, PA. Maya's teaching style is grounded and intense with clear instructions, and she helps her students understand and find joy in their yoga practice and deepen their body awareness, .
