About

Melinda Gaines, E-RYT200, RYT500, is passionate about whole-person health and brings more than 20 years of experience in the health and wellness fields.

Through her extensive professional experience as well as working one-on-one with individuals in various roles, she has developed a deep understanding that true wellness encompasses the mind, body, and spirit—all influenced by many aspects of a person’s life. Her individualized approach has helped many people begin their journey toward lasting lifestyle changes, leading to healthier and more fulfilling lives. In her previous roles, she’s served as the Complementary Health Coordinator at Calvert Health, where she integrated complementary therapies into hospital service lines, positively influencing patient outcomes. As a Living Well Chronic Disease Management Coordinator, Melinda collaborated with local partners to plan and implement evidence-based six-week courses designed to help participants make sustainable lifestyle changes. As a Living Well with Diabetes Facilitator, she valued seeing participants experience breakthrough moments as they recognized the benefits of their efforts and reached their goals.Currently, as a Program Specialist with the Office on Aging, she directs a senior center and develops and leads programs that support the four pillars of healthy aging: physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social well-being.Some of Melinda’s professional achievements include planning and leading Cancer Survivor Retreats, coordinating Stress Less Retreats, and serving as a webinar speaker for the ACL (Administration for Community Living - Healthy and Human Services on Stress and Self Care in the workplace. Her passion is to help people love, care for, and appreciate the bodies they live in.In addition to her program leadership, Melinda has had the privilege of teaching yoga to a variety of groups over the years, but she has been especially inspired by her work with seniors. She currently teaches more than 35 older adult students each week in gentle yoga classes. She has witnessed and experienced the powerful benefits of combining movement and breath—benefits that are now widely supported by research in leading health journals. By using the breath to calm the sympathetic nervous system, tension in the mind, body, and heart can be released, setting off a sequence of internal events that restore the body’s natural balance (homeostasis). From this balanced state, everything flows outward—our thoughts, words, and actions—helping us make clearer decisions about our health and our lives as a whole.Melinda's passion in life is to help all people live well in and appreciate their bodies so they can impact our community and world!
