About
My own personal journey in yoga began a year after my son was born.
I knew that I needed to do something for myself, something that would help me calm my mind, something that would help me feel good about myself. I have found that, and more, with yoga. I am stronger, calmer, more flexibile and less reactive to things that Life throws my way. It has helped me become a better mother, daughter and friend. I teach vinyasa yoga which is a flowing sequence of movements connected to the breath. The body is challenged in the areas of strength, balance and flexibility; the mind is challenged by focusing on the task at hand, the breath. With consistent practice, my students have realized amazing benefits -- they have overcome chronic pain, serious injuries and other Life challenges. No matter what your situation, yoga can benefit you physically, mentally and emotionally. If you don't feel ready for a class in a group setting, I am always available for private sessions to get you comfortable with the poses and format. We can also work together to modify the practice for any injuries or temporary conditions -- pre-natal yoga is a great way to get ready for baby! The great thing about yoga is that you can start wherever you are and progress gradually from there... Yoga is a continual learning process – and I can honestly say that I have barely scratched the surface. But, as a teacher, I commit to teaching my students what I know and guiding them in their process of personal growth in yoga. More thoughts and views about the studio and yoga in my interview with Yoga Lagniappe. Note: I am a E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance and completed my 200-hour (2008) and 500-hour (2011) teacher training with Rolf Gates. I have led over a cozen yoga teacher trainings and would love to work with you. My intention is to continue to learn and grow in the practice of yoga. Namaste! -- Mia
