About
I'm Director of Ananda Yoga at Ananda School of Yoga & Meditation (at The Expanding Light Retreat in Ananda Village, California).
I teach in both Ananda's Level 1 YTT (200 hrs) and its Level 2 (300 more hrs) YTT. I also co-direct Ananda's Meditation TT (two versions: in person & online). I'm a Certified Online Instructor, and I'll soon offer more training online for yoga and meditation teachers. I've been a disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda for more than 35 years. I have taught all aspects of Yoga in Yogananda's tradition since 1983. I also teach throughout the U.S. as well as in India, Israel, and Costa Rica. My yoga books include Spiritual Yoga: Awakening to HigherAwareness, Guide to the Mahabharata and Life of Sri Krishna, and, as co-author with Dr. Peter Van Houten, two books on specialized applications of yoga practices. I have created the 12 volumes (48 classes) of The Ananda Yoga Series on video (6 volumes currently available, more to come soon), plus two separate yoga videos (Yoga to Awaken the Chakras and Yoga for Busy People) and five CD/MP3s (Pranayama for Deeper Meditation, Magnetize Your Life, Ease into Sleep, Connect with Spirit, and Dance of Divinity). I am a co-founder of Yoga Alliance, and I served on the board of directors from its inception in 1999 until 2017, with the exception of a brief hiatus in 2006. My wife, Nayaswami Diksha, and I live at Ananda Village, a Northern California community of disciples of Paramhansa Yogananda. We both teach full-time at The Expanding Light Retreat, and we both serve as Ananda ministers. We also lead spiritual travel experiences to India, Israel, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. Our personal website is http://www.WaysToFreedom.com. I received a B.A. in Mathematics from Carleton College and M.S./Ph.D. in Operations Research (applied mathematics) from Stanford University. After graduate school, I worked as a management consultant with clients from both business and government, before moving to Ananda Village in 1984. I'm happy (and honored) to say that I have lived at Ananda Village ever since.
