About

Nick Shroff, MD, FACS, ERYT, is Professor of Research & Teaching Faculty, VaYU President, American Prostate Cancer Foundation, board-certified urologist, cancer surgeon, health care consultant, lifestyle medicine physician, and experienced yoga teacher.

I have practiced yoga since my medical school days, primarily in Vellore, Bangalore, and Bombay. I have taught yoga for over 4 decades. I moved to Chicago in 1971, where I continued my yoga practice and teaching. I was fortunate to be introduced to excellent teachers early on, which inspired me to pursue more in-depth training with several master teachers. My training includes: - Yoga practice with Swami Jyotirmayananda at the Yoga Research Foundation in Miami, FL, from 1982 to 1997, including stays at his ashram in 1987 and 1994. - Baba Ramdev’s “Training the Trainer,” Levels 1 & 2, in Dallas, TX, from 2007 to 2009.- Training, yoga practice, and teaching with Ashwinee Prajnaa from 2008 to 2011.- Collaboration with the Vyasa Foundation, SEVA International, and the Art of Living (AOL) DFW chapter in the “STOP DIABETES” initiative. - Completion of a formal residential RYT-200 training through the Yoga Alliance Teacher program at the Art of Living Foundation in July 2015, in Boone, NC.- Sri Sri Center for Value and Culture, SSCVC-TTC program in 2017. -I have accumulated over 500 hours of training, with at least half of that time spent learning from yoga gurus rooted in a traditional yoga lineage. As my practice deepened and my knowledge expanded, I naturally felt drawn to teach others the practice that has brought me so much fulfillment. I began teaching in the mid-1990s, initially from my home and later in small community settings, including the Midland HAWT Temple, JKyog, Radha Krishna Temple, and the Prem Yoga Center. I have taught yoga to people dealing with anxiety, arthritis, fatigue, trauma, recovery, and pain. Some of my students come to me feeling hopeful but overwhelmed. They choose my classes because I offer a safe, personalized approach alongside standard offerings. Since 2016, I have conducted classes twice a week and have also added yoga classes on Zoom. My multilevel classes integrate pranayama, meditation, and philosophy with asana, drawing on medical expertise. Over the years, I have taught more than 4,000 hours, including specialized classes for seniors. More information on my website: https://yoga4seniors.org/https://amprostatecancerfdn.com/Yoga has provided me with a grounding space that helps me connect with myself and quiet my mind. I have remained true to my lineage and successfully invited exceptional teachers with a similar focus to offer a diverse range of classes. For the past six years, I have taught an in-depth yoga teacher training course (YTTC) at JKyog, the Radha Krishna Temple, and the Prem Yoga Center, under the guidance of Swami Mukundanand ji and K. Devi ji. We initially offered a 200-hour program and, in 2024, expanded to a 500-hour program. I practiced conventional Western medicine for over four decades, integrating modern therapeutic experiences and skills with complementary medicine. My background in medical studies has led me to explore the therapeutic benefits of yoga, with a focus on yoga nidra and restorative practices. Over the past 30 years, I have attended and conducted numerous workshops, expanding my involvement in the local yoga community. Throughout the years, I have never stopped learning and teaching. My book, *Synergy of Yoga & Modern Medicine for Wholistic Health & Joyful Living*, addresses the questions our students and friends have asked us. It targets a broad readership, including patients, caregivers, healthcare practitioners, and yoga enthusiasts at various stages of life.
