I have been a certified yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance since 2022. My yoga journey began when I was 56 years old. Some may say that is a late start, but what they do not know is that yoga has no timeline. Yoga is my guide to comprehending each moment, thought by thought, with the use of ancient knowledge in the evolution of humanity - physical health and self-realization. Background I worked as an accountant for over twenty years. I sat at a desk in a room with no windows. I did not prioritize healthy foods or exercise and eventually I fell very ill. I was in and out of hospitals and surgeries for years. I was taking care of everything and everyone except for myself – something many women and mothers are familiar with, I am sure. Once both my son and daughter were done their education and were settled in jobs, I felt my work as a mother was fulfilled and I began to wonder about my purpose. This led me to finding health and movement through yoga. And I fell in love instantly and have not looked back. Yoga & other training Before digging into yoga, I began to study human and family psychology, numerology, astrology, physiognomy, and Vedic sciences. All of these subjects helped me heal and understand my brain and relationships better and they were a smooth transition into yoga – a form of movement that heals the mind and the body. In 2022, I attended my first yoga teacher training in Hatha & Restorative yoga in Mexico. I then traveled to Cambodia where I learned the art of Qi Gong and Tai Chi Chuan from Tao Te Ching Master who lived in the building I was living in. This was not part of my plan, but I embraced something new and was able to related it to my yoga practices. Then, in 2023, I went on my dream trip – Rishikesh, India. There I met my teacher, Shailendra Singh Negi, who taught me the art of Vedic and Kundalini Kriya yoga. Together, we went on a pilgrimage high into the Himalayas to the source of the Ganges River - the Gamukh Glacier. This hike challenged me mentally and physically and was one of the greatest tests of my yogic journey so far. When I returned home later that year, I wrote my own course in Vedic (Himalayan yoga), which I teach to students in person and online, and have began to host yoga retreats as well. Here and now I define yoga as a union. The union of the conscious and unconscious body and soul. This union is what enabled me to surpass my illness and to live in harmony with my everyday life, to be mentally and physically stronger, and has given me the mastery to cope through life's challenges. Whether someone is beginning their yogic journey or looking to expand on existing knowledge, all are welcome in my yogic classroom. start, but what they do not know is that yoga has no timeline.
