After treatment she drew up some specific poses for me to take home and each subsequent visit she diligently taught me how to connect spirit, mind, body and breath in doing them. For the next 20 years I practiced these as part of my workout routine and shared them with friends and colleagues who saw my level of fitness and asked to be trained by me. Practicing those poses daily helped me age gracefully in a healthy way, without having to resort to medication, even though I had to sit day in day out for most of my 20 year I.T. career! In 2018 I had a very bad fall that resulted in a severe concussion. Still suffering one year later a neurosurgeon / concussion expert suggested Mindfulness and Yoga. So I joined a local studio and very quickly began to notice a difference in how I felt: my tolerance to noise and light seemed better, my mood improved, my body felt half decent and I could handle my day much better. It was this "aha moment" that drove me to become a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. To this day I live with a condition called "Post Concussion Syndrome" (PCS). I'm not able to do much computing or anything intensive for long periods of time, nor can I handle noise, crowds or certain lights without getting serious complications. Learning to pace myself, detect oncoming symptoms and permit myself to lay down and recover from a symptomatic crash became a vital part of daily life. Yoga, pranayama, mindfulness, meditation/stillness and nature walks have been my most effective tools in helping me to live with this condition. When I fail to practice self-care I eventually begin to feel horribly exhausted and symptomatic. Thankfully, I know this to be a blessing; it is my body telling me to get back to doing what is good for me: mindful yoga, body and breath awareness and meditative stillness, all combined with a good dose of gratitude and genuine faith works miracles for me!My Life Coaching encounters go all the way back to the early 90’s. Admit it, all of us could use someone who stands by our side as we search for clarity at some point in our lives; things can get pretty foggy! As coach I just walk with someone for a little while as trusted friend and mentor. I offer deep listening, compassion, love, and timely truth until the fog clears. I don't advertise. These are people that just happen to appear in my life for a while and initiate some sort of transaction super naturally easy - we just click! They recognize it, as do I... My own experiences in life with all its ups and downs, continuing change, much inner healing and personal growth along with my passionate interest in people, mindfulness, counselling courses, and deep authentic faith have more than equipped me to offer a no judgement empathy, compassion, understanding, and genuine love. It is this that enables people to feel heard. Authenticity can’t be faked with accolades or meaningless words.- Onno Chantrel -
