About

Patricia McGown is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher training with an approved and active Registered Yoga School (RYS).

Patricia "Patty" McGown studied under Nancy Ruby of YogaMotion in Bozeman, Montana, and finished her training in 2004 and started teaching immediately after her certification with Yoga Alliance.   In addition to YogaMotion training, Patty has received training on Trauma Focused Yoga from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Judith Hanson Lasater, Joel Kramer, among others. Patty has taken classes in Key West, Bozeman, Missoula, Nicaragua, Portland, Arizona, and Minneapolis/St Paul. Patty’s practice includes a blend of Hatha Yoga, Viniyoga, Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Trauma Focused yoga.  Patty is known for her understanding of anatomy and the systems of the body. Her classes emphasize pranayama (the three part yogic breath), strength, flexibility in the face of inflexibility, sequencing of the forms (asanas) and deep relaxation.  Patty taught in Bozeman and Belgrade for 8 years before moving to Wisconin in 2012. Patty opened the Yoga Studio of Rice Lake in 2015 and there are over 9 classes per week offered by 3 independent teachers.  Patty says “I took my first yoga class in 2001 in Australia with a 70 year old teacher in a ‘standing room only’ class in a community center. After having been a runner for 25 years, and feeling pain and stiffness for years, I finally felt some relief practicing yoga. Yoga changed my body and it also calmed my mind. I love yoga for the way I feel after a class: balanced, calm, strong, tall, and relieved of any tension I may have been feeling. Yoga deepens my breath and for me, actually has increased my respiration. I love yoga for how it moves all the muscles of the body around all the joints, moves the spine in all 5 directions, and builds stamina and strength, focus and concentration, grace and poise. Yoga calms the nervous system and has been shown to reduce both anxiety and depression. Yoga is a tradition passed down through its teachers. I took a few classes from world renowned teachers and learned techniques for alignment that I still use today. I teach yoga for every body”.
