About
Rubén began exploring yoga and formal meditation in Colombia, where he grew up.
In 1996, he began practicing daily and soon discovered that most yoga techniques revealed weaknesses and tightness in his body, mind, and heart. However, each session brought greater clarity and balance, motivating him to continue practicing. In 2005, after nine years of daily practice, Rubén enrolled in a yoga teacher training program and began teaching in the Tampa Bay area. Since then, he has devoted most of his energy to studying, practicing, and teaching yoga. Rubén (E-RYT500) is a creative and eclectic teacher who combines what he has learned from his teachers, what he continuously learns from his students, and his own daily exploration of yoga techniques and traditional yoga philosophy. Constantly finding ways to improve his practice and teaching, in 2009 he created a bilingual DVD titled Yoga Here + Now for Beginners. After studying the Yoga Sutras for nearly a decade, he wrote the book, Unravel the Thread: Applying the Ancient Wisdom of Yoga to Live a Happy Life. This contemporary interpretation of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras offers practical suggestions for students interested in incorporating the Sutras' wisdom into their yoga practice and daily life. Rubén has taught the fundamentals of yoga, slow mindful flow, restorative yoga, pranayama, meditation, and yoga nidra in group and individual classes, workshops, teacher training programs, and retreats, both locally and abroad. Teaching yoga is a dream come true for Rubén, as well as an honor and a responsibility. Rubén follows the example of teachers he admires. In every class, he encourages students to meet themselves where they are, to smile gently, and to discover their own way of practicing yoga. He does this so that they can live a more vibrant, meaningful, and joyful life.
