A visionary leader, and owner of the CFY, Ruth Fisk began studying yoga in 1980 and has been teaching only Iyengar yoga for 40 years. Ruth is spirited and passionate in her delivery of this ancient art and science, and is dedicated to the teaching of Yoga in traditional and kind way with abundant humor and self-reflection. Ruth is a long time, experienced Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher in the area who is authorized to teach BKS Iyengar's method. Her teaching of yoga and the continual expansion the Center for Yoga over the years has been instrumental to the growth of the yoga community of teachers and students in the area. Generous by nature, Ruth provides an environment at the Center that is safe and caring with the intention to help students find the right place, right teacher to grow and transform through yoga. Everyone comes to yoga for their own reasons, Ruth's was a dance injury. Little did she know it would turn out to be a life altering journey of self-discovery and a career filled with giving and heart centered work. For 44 years now she has practiced yoga and studied the art of teaching Iyengar Yoga. Along with being the experienced teacher Certified in the tradition of BKS Iyengar she is also an E-RYT 500 and a YAECP with Yoga Alliance and the founder of the Anandalay for Yoga Study. This one year program is offered to assist students in deepening their understanding of Yoga overall and to begin their journey toward teaching if desired. (Currently not being held at this time) In 1997 Ruth opened The Center for Yoga in East Lansing, Michigan. Her original reason for opening the center grew out of a desire to teach in an environment that supported the broad nature of yoga and it has since grown to fulfill one of her greatest dreams-which is to provide a space for teachers and students to uphold the traditions of yoga and fully bring them into their lives as a profession and a lifestyle and practice. One of Ruth's greatest joys in teaching is to watch students grow through the natural evolution of yoga in their life and how it touches on many levels, inspiring their commitment to their health and life's purpose. At Center for Yoga we embody the breadth of yoga traditions to support people in their movement toward wholeness. We are unique among yoga centers for offer traditional practices rooted in traditions that can be traced to a lineage. It is just this feature that allows us to meet the broad range of needs our students and clients have by helping them find the style of yoga class that is best for them.
