About
Scott began practicing yoga, as well as t'ai chi and meditation, back in the day--the 1970's--when these ancient wisdom technologies were still on the fringes of our culture.
Times have changed. Yoga is now a mainstream global phenomenon, backed by scientific research and popular acceptance. Yet it is more than an exercise. More than postures. More than fitness. More than wellness. Yoga is a multidimensional lifelong learning process that engages body, heart, mind and soul in an integral and transformative way. With a Ph.D. in holistic and "aesthetic" education, Scott spent the first part of his career teaching and innovating experiential learning methods, mostly at the university level. Leaving formal education to study the health sciences and develop a health and wellness business, he has come full circle, finding his true calling teaching yoga--an authentic form of holistic education--in classes, workshops and teacher trainings. He brings over 30 years of professional educational experience to the practice of teaching yoga and yoga teachers. For the past three years, after moving from Cost Rica, Scott has been serving as the resident and studio manager of the Discovery Yoga Center in St. Augustine, Florida, teaching weekly classes in Kripalu Yoga, Yin Yoga, Chakra Yoga, Dynamic Gentle Yoga, and a Yoga Basics Training course. He also has taught Chair Yoga, Let Your Yoga Dance, Yoga & Qigong, and Yogic Drumming at Discovery. Along with his partner Karuna, he also leads 200 hr. Yoga Teacher Trainings. Together they supervise and teach in the DYS 300 hr. teacher training program. Introduced to yoga by Amrit Desai, he has studied with Deva Parnell and many other senior Kripalu lineage holders. He is a longtime teacher of T'ai Chi Ch'uan and Qigong, having undergone a rigorous twelve year teacher training program with the international School of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, and is certified also with Supreme Science Qigong. He has studied many forms of meditation including TM, Arica, Kabbala, Buddhist and Osho methods. His 1000 hour massage therapy training integrated Eastern and Western bodywork modalities and led to an understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics that deeply inform his yoga teaching.
