About
Shawna began practicing yoga for over 15 years ago and began a dedicated practice 9 years ago under the guidance of Nancy Rendinaro, her yoga mama.
She started as a means to develop flexibility as a runner and in her job as a theatre carpenter. In 2016, she completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training with Debbie Philp of True North Advanced Yoga Studies in Schroon Lake and Prenatal teacher training at the Prenatal Method with Beth Kruger in Williston, VT. Yoga is an integral part of her life, helping her find resilience, calm, and connection in the everyday and in times of crisis. Recognizing that each of us needs to slow down, breathe, and reconnect the mind with the body, she builds each of her classes with asanas (poses) to develop balance, flexibility, strength, and confidence. Shawna teaches classes that allow her students to find a balance between ease and challenge, finding inner strength and wisdom and learning to embrace discomfort and recognize our limits with grace. She strives to meet students where they are, understanding that yoga is a beneficial path for all people and their bodies. Her classes are intended for all levels of students. As a Prenatal yoga teacher, Shawna works to create a peaceful, supportive space where students can build strength, balance, and confidence through visualization in their abilities as birthing people. All classes utilize props, including blocks to insure a safe practice so students can focus on the posture and breath. And, all classes end with a guided conscious relaxation and savasana. She is also a doula in training, working on finalizing her certification. Shawna also has a PhD in Theatre and teaches at SUNY Plattsburgh and directs both locally and regionally. She is an avid long-distance runner, too. You’ve probably seen her out on road at one point or another. Yoga and running for her are meditative practices, focusing on the breath, alignment, and staying present…yoga is significantly less sweaty.
