Sona Desai Buchanan

I was born in Melbourne, Australia, raised in Raleigh, NC, and currently live on the island of Oahu, on native Hawai'ian land. I’m a Yoga and Ayurvedic practitioner and have been a mentor and guide for 12 years, facilitating teacher trainings, workshops, classes and team development. My mission is to honor, uphold and share my wisdom traditions in a simple and heartfelt way, while creating opportunities for awareness and action towards inclusivity, equity and access in yoga spaces, by businesses and teachers. I received a dual Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Anthropology from New York University. I am an E-RYT 500 and graduate of Kripalu School of Yoga and 8 Limbs Yoga. I am also a world traveler, military spouse and dog mom. In addition to yoga, I have worked in various other sectors:child and family trauma, graphic design, marketing, event planning, commercial and residential real estate, property management, retail management and visual merchant training, with a focus on new markets. I am a Certified Thai Yoga Bodywork practitioner, owning and operating my own studio for 2 years. I am a YACEP provider, offering continuing education in the form of workshops, modules and teacher training at the 200-hr level. My classes range from challenging, playful and dynamic to fluid and restorative but ultimately weave together exploration and self-study. My teaching practice is about holding space and encouraging people to a deeper knowing and acceptance of all parts of themselves and in doing so, guiding them to a higher capacity for love in the world.
