About
Sonya Genel Dresser, ERYT500, embraces the power of yoga not only to heal and transform the body but also to heighten human consciousness and to create a radiant life.
In her classes, Sonya weaves precise anatomical alignment with conscious breath and flowing movement. Her intention as a teacher is to support embodied spirituality and to hold space for transformation. Always approaching her students with authenticity and humor, Sonya believes yoga is for everybody, and she joyfully welcomes everyone to the practice. When Sonya first discovered yoga in the late 1990’s, she began with Ashtanga yoga and Power Vinyasa. As her practice developed over time, Sonya gravitated more towards alignment based styles such as Iyengar and Anusara. She attended her first teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Over the years she has completed hundreds more hours of training in alignment based yoga, prenatal yoga, anatomy, therapeutics, mysticism, tantra, and meditation. Sonya is deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to study closely with many incredible teachers. Most notably she apprenticed for several years with Sianna Sherman, an internationally acclaimed master teacher and the founder of Rasa Yoga. Sonya now brings over 15 years of teaching experience to her classes, workshops, trainings and retreats. She is a certified teacher of Rasa Yoga, and holds an E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance. Sonya is also a mother, an artist, and a death doula. Her experience of pregnancy and motherhood informs every aspect of her life and work, and she is passionate about helping other women and moms find balance and health through yoga. As an artist, she notices the profound effects yoga has on her creativity, and she has dedicated herself to enthusiastically guiding others toward enhancing their own unique life path through yoga. Sonya also has a calling to work with the dying, and she offers her services as a death doula and a hospice volunteer whenever possible. Practice yoga with Sonya online at udaya.com and yogavibes.com, and in person at the Green Yogi (mygreenyogi.com) in Berkeley, CA.
