Sonya began practicing yoga in 2012 under Master Woo Yun in Centreville, VA.
She began teaching yoga at the Namoo Yoga Center in Centreville, VA in 2014. She completed her Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 200 in 2016 at Yava Yoga, in Fairfax, VA, and her RYT 300 in 2020 at Peachtree Yoga Center in Sandy Springs, GA. Sonya is certified in multiple specialty yoga modalities including Hatha, Restorative, Yin, Aerial, Chair, Integrative Somatic Yoga (ISY), and Yoga Nidra. She is also a certified Mindfulness Meditation instructor. She has mentored and supported 200 and 300 hour RTT programs at Peachtree Yoga and Giving Tree Yoga. Sonya currently teaches at Giving Tree Yoga in Smyrna, GA, Peachtree Yoga Center in Sandy Springs, GA, Douglas County Government in Douglasville, GA, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Support Services Center in Brookhaven, GA. She also volunteers with The Georgia Transplant Foundation teaching organ transplant patients and family members chair yoga and meditation, and a member of the Atlanta Yoga Fellowship. Her Yoga Alliance certifications include Educator-RYT 200 (E-RYT 200), RYT 500, and a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She retired from federal service in 2016 after working 33 years for the Army and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
