About
Greetings, I am Tamina.
I am enamored with spaces that cultivate connection and healing. In 2020, I founded The Space & Advocacy Project (S&A), centering the vision around intentionally creating space for wellbeing in the lives of BIPOC/LGBTQ+ survivors of trauma and toxic stress. My philosophy of practice rejects medicalization and pathologization of the human experience; I embrace the fullness of humanity as it presents in each individual. My lens of practice is trauma-informed care. My yoga coaching style is grounded in the guiding principles of S&A: compassion, connection, curiosity, choice, and care. I am a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience in nursing and mental health. I hold certifications in the Trauma-Conscious Yoga Method, Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, chair yoga, and restorative yoga. I am also a Master-Certified Professional Coach and a Master of Social Work student at Howard University, studying to become a psychotherapist through the unique lens of the Black Perspective. Sessions are a collaborative experience inviting you to explore your breath and bodily senses through traditional gentle yoga forms and intuitive movements. Sessions are led using the language of compassionate inquiry. At this time, all sessions are held virtually via Zoom. Individual and group sessions are available (evenings/weekends per availability). I understand the impact of toxic stress and trauma on the mind, body, and soul. I founded this practice because I know how difficult it is to connect with trauma-informed yoga practitioners who understand the complex intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in BIPOC communities. I bring the fullness of my awareness and lived experiences into my practice and the curation of work I do through S&A. I look forward to joining you on your healing journey.
