About

Tara Glazier founded Abhaya Yoga in 2010 after a lifetime of professional dance, teaching ballet, and freelancing as a NYC yoga teacher.

Finding the expansive, light-filled space in DUMBO inspired her to settle down and build a community. She takes only partial credit in the creation of Abhaya, as it was a group effort that brought the studio and community to life. Tara had an early start to her career in movement and dance and moved away from home at 15 to attend North Carolina School of the Arts. Directly to follow high school, she was chosen as an apprentice with the Hartford Ballet and continued into the University program. After completing a BFA in Dance Pedagogy from the University of Hartford/ Hartt School, Tara moved to NYC to pursue a modern dance career. It was in NYC where she fell deeply in love with yoga and spirituality and began her studies: Jivamukti, Atmananda ( 200 hr Yoga Alliance Certified), and Anusara. While simultaneoulsy working at Ballet Tech, Tara was promoted to Director of Faculty in 2003 where she recruited and trained upcoming ballet dancers under the direction of Eliot Feld. Always having an interest in business and potentially opening a studio of her own someday, Tara enrolled herself in a business program and received a minor degree from WIBO business school in New York (2007). After receiving Anusara Certification, in 2008, Tara became a full-time yoga teacher in NYC and began traveling internationally to offer retreats and trainings. It is a great gift for Tara to create a home in Brooklyn where she started her yoga teaching career in 2001. She is forever grateful to all of her teachers and mentors (John Friend, Zhenja LaRosa, Elena Brower, Bill Mahony); to her parents who have supported her through the many ups and downs of life, and to the entire community that makes Abhaya so special. She is a yoga teacher/ studio owner by trade yet humbled and astounded by her main job as mother to her little girl, Samaya. For more information about her workshops, immersions and also private instruction you can contact her at: [email protected]
