About

Tom's goal as a teacher is to make the physicality and subtlety of yoga asana and breath work accessible to all students.

Through story, metaphor and humor he encourages students to enjoy practice and have fun. His work and training as a licensed massage therapist is integral to how he approaches teaching just as his dedicated practice and teaching of yoga inform his work with massage clients. He has been teaching since 2005 the same year he became an LMT. Helping others as they heal from injury, advance their own practice and continue to practice as they age is central to his approach. Tom’s teaching lineage begins with the founders of Yoga on High in Columbus, Ohio: Martha Marcom, Linda Oshins and Marcia Miller. He has also completed teacher trainings with world-renowned Ashtanga yoga teachers Tim Miller, David Keil, Maty Ezraty, Richard Freeman and Mary Taylor. All these master teachers have helped to guide Tom in his understanding of anatomy (both subtle and gross), pranayama and individualized student instruction as well as the history, philosophy and depth of the living yoga tradition. With his skills and education as a massage therapist, Tom was asked to assist in teacher training programs immediately after becoming a RYT. He has designed and led Ashtanga teacher trainings as well as anatomy related workshops and trainings. For over a decade he has spent 1000+ hours mentoring and training yoga teachers at the 200- and 300-hour level. Over the past 20 years Tom has logged 8000+ hours teaching of asana, pranayama and meditation. He has a bachelor’s degree in art history from The Ohio State University where he focused on Buddhist meditational art. He is an experienced Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500), a Yoga Alliance Education Provider (YACEP) and Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).
