About
Valerie Okunami has been self-employed in media since 1992.
All during her years of building her media operations, Ms. Okunami maintained a keen interest in health and physical fitness. As an undergraduate business major at Sacramento State, she worked as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. In 2000, yoga became a major part of her fitness regime and it grew in intensity until she found herself a certified yoga instructor teaching the practice and now training yoga instructors. She began teaching at a popular Roseville yoga studio and Health & Wellness Center. In 2009 she founded Okunami Workplace Yoga, conducting yoga classes for employees at the workplace. Today, she and four teachers conduct 12 employer/employee-sponsored classes a week in the Sacramento area. She regularly teaches employees from Kaiser Permanente, California State Parks, Umpqua Bank, Social Security Administration, Prima Games, Katz & Associates, KB Homes, Umpqua Bank, Allstate Insurance and others. Her Client firms include Hines Property Management, AKT Properties, CBRE Real Estate, Vintage Senior Living Sierra Point, Sysco Food Services. In 2014, the Bizi Yogi Training Programs kicks off providing yoga teacher training and certification at an affordable price. Valerie’s yoga style is straight forward and alignment oriented specializing in the needs of the corporate client, boomers and disabled seniors. Her yoga classes fall into the style categories of yin, disabled senior chair yoga, vinyasa flow and deskchair yoga. Valerie teaches yoga because she sees the incredible transformation people make in their lives when they begin their yoga practice. They become healthier, more relaxed and more positive. They discover coping skills to handle the stress of day to day living. She never forgets where she came from and is always grateful for the teaching opportunities she has been given.
