Her yoga journey began in September 1971 with the completion of teacher training at the Integral Yoga Institute of Los Angeles, a Registered Yoga School (RYS).During her two-year teaching tenure at the Institute, Debra—known by her yoga name, Poornaji, hosted and taught retreats ranging from three to ten days in duration. Following her residency, she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in September 1973, where she became a catalyst for introducing yoga to the greater Las Vegas Valley. Debra established the area’s first traditional yoga classes at the YMCA, Caesar’s Palace Spa, and local health clubs, later expanding yoga programs throughout community recreation centers countywide. As a professional showgirl and chorus dancer, she also taught yoga backstage to fellow performers.Since 2008, Debra Stefan Fitness Retreat has incorporated yoga into daily wellness programs, offering Thai Yoga Stretching as part of personalized guest services for flexibility, mobility, and recovery enhancement. Her residency at the Integral Yoga Institute involved living on-site, teaching daily classes, and mentoring new teacher trainees. She hosted and taught retreats ranging from three to ten days in duration and represented the Institute at public events and speaking engagements throughout California.Following her residency, she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in September 1973, where she became a catalyst for introducing yoga to the greater Las Vegas Valley.
